READ THIS, ROMNEY

I've just rec'd this e-mail from my son Alex (51, PhD Columbia/Urban Anthropology):

Dear Bill,

Actually, something has come up in terms of unexpected costs. I just spent about $400 for extra copies of textbooks to put on reserve in the library for students in my classes who can't afford to buy the book themselves. I'm also spending about $100 on photocopying for my larger-than-expected classes. I won't get reimbursed for these costs. I could use an investment or loan of $500 to get me going this semester. Do you think you can swing that?

Thanks,
Love,
Alex

ROBORYAN

Journalism rises
from the wastland
of mere transcription

suddenly asking questions
not merely transcribing

RoboRyan's caught unprepared,
his baby-blue eyes blinking
until his lie-gears engage.

what we deserve

WHAT WE DESERVE

“What do we deserve?
What makes us Great!

We're here to tell you
we can have it all again!

We only have to shout:
We are The Greatest!”

Romney pauses, empty,
doubtless, shouting:

'What do we deserve?
What makes us Great!
We are The Greatest!”

PROB@BLY

PROB@BLY

To Dave Keefer

If the present financial-system
(as they say) 'works well for you'
pro forma conservativism follows,
justified by "The System Works!"
(until recently/now.) What 'works'
in this late-neocapitalist world?
Survival by any means (probably)

as we (probably) transition
to something new/worse,
frightening us all (but the 1%)
If I didn't have the internet,
I'd be quite miserable; here
I sound sane & reasonable…

TAX TIME

In the cold back room
golders stack gold coins;
coincidentally as they’re
increasing their wealth
increMentally, the world’s
wealth’s being tallied,
told out metallically.

Specie still speaks loudly
in gold bars stacked up
to lie in silent rooms, but
the world’s money moves
digitally over copper wires,
in satellite-signal pulses.

Old golders feel oblivious
to this until they cash out
in curious tesselated codes.
Tax-time translates them all.

Cooperate

Cooperate

for George Lakoff

IF we ever hope to recover
value from Values, we'd
better make ours appealing:
We cooperate; They compete.
